Thank you, Russell. Yours was the only resource that led me in the correct direction to finally reset the unknown password on our iLO100.

Hi Russell,

So glad you posted this! We went through four hours of troubleshooting chaos before stumbling across your post. Truly, it was the easiest solution!

Thank you!

Try to use an Ubuntu 14.04 LTS live CD.

once the live cd has booted, is it a case of running up terminal and continue to follow your reset guide?

I am a Windows person and have never used Unix or Ubuntu Linux. I have Windows Server 2012 installed so how do you suggest I reset the HP Lights-Out-100? Do I really need to create a boot USB drive with Unix to just reset the iLO-100? Isn't there a tool I can run in command mode to do this within Windows Server 2012? Thanks...

Yes, I would really take the time to create an Ubuntu boot CD (or USB) and follow the guide. It works great.

Use this small goal to as foray into uncharted territory.

You will be better for it. : )

Hi Russel

I got an DL180/G6 wit LO100 as well and was able to reset the admin password. However, the sol does not work yet. I checked the BIOS settings:

Serial Port to 3F8/IRQ4. Serial Port Assignment to BMC. Serial Port Connection Mode to Direct.

However, I only get this output and after the countdown no more text is shown:

root@0f48cd89007b:/# ipmitool -H 10.42.70.241 -U admin -I lanplus sol activate Password: Get HPM.x Capabilities request failed, compcode = d4 [SOL Session operational. Use ~? for help] 7.6.5.4.3.2.1.

So I wonder if you have an idea what could be wrong?

To be honest the SOL always felt janky and I never end up relying on it or using it. I documented it here as a way to remember the steps needed to perform the process but I don't have any ideas. In fact, recently I attempted to use mine and it simply did not work, I ended up needing to lug a monitor down to my basement to fix a boot issue.

I just installed a Windows2000 with Java 1.4.2 and Firefox 11 - this is the only way I got the original Remote KVM Media Viewer going and currently my only way around a keyboard and monitor and going to the basement everytime I am trying something (not installed the OS yet as I am still playing with the decision P812 vs LSI and stuff like that)
