What time frame was the 3375kWh for? You'd have to be paying $.30/kWh for that to be a year's worth of power for your water heater.

How much has the kWh/HDD for your space heating increased with the heat pump water heater?

I use a Curb to get real-time energy usage.

The traditional unit showed on average a 45 minute recovery time at 4500-4900 watts, since this is less than an hour, I first multiply 4500 by .75 to get 3375 watts for an hour, finally I divide by 1000 to get the 3.375 kWhr.

The new system runs for 3 hours, using an average of 350 watts, so I first multiply by 3 which is 1050 before I divide by 1000 to get the 1.05 kWhr.

This is 69% decrease in consumption each time the system runs to recover.

The system runs to recover after showers, baths, and dishwasher. 3-6 times per day.

It's just a water heater, its not a hot water heater. Straight from A.O. Smiths description. "50 Gallon Voltex Residential Hybrid Electric Heat Pump Water Heater "

While I agree with you, the title was written for SEO (search engine optimization).

Hi - Thanks for the good info. We're in Eastern CT as well, near the shore. We run a dehimidifier pretty much all summer. Will the hybrid system really eliminate the need for it completely in a humid unfinished basement? Also, in winter, how cold did the basement get? We'll put it next to the boiler, and I'm guessing it takes all that heat out... Will it be freezing when we go down to do the laundrey?

Sorry for the very late reply. I still run a dehimidifier during summer too or at least I think it kicks on. The unit does blow cold air when it's running, like a mini AC. The basement now stays a consistent cool temp all year round. It doesn't feel that much colder during the freeze of winter, it's still warm enough for a basement. Hope you found an answer sooner and found some cost savings!
